Software to monitor services (freeware / opensource)

Hi guys,

I am looking for a software (if possible open source or freeware) that can be used to monitor services. The idea would be that if on a server (W2K or W2K3) a service goes down, a message (smtp mail) is send to the administrators.

I've used this one before:

It's not opensource, but their free version is pretty nice. They also have a paid version that offers more, but you might not need that depending on what you want to monitor.

That is actually a nice looking tool, tried the demo a bit and to be honest it can measure up with some of the expensive ones out there (or at least the implementations i have seen)
