Table of Contents from several docs?

Does anyone know if it is possible to create a table of contents for several doucments linked together?

I need to create a large manual with numerous chapters. I want to keep each chapter in a separate document, but create a table of contents (in its own document) that includes all the chapters.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
