RIS client SATA drive does not install when windows loads..

Recommended Posts

The prob I am having is with a new Seagate ST31160812AS SATA drive(actually a couple diff Seagate SATA's). After I deploy my image, the first time windows boots, the add new hardware pops up for this seagate drive.. I continue the installation, but the drive does not install properly and has the yellow ! in device manager. This is where the boot issue is...When I reboot, windows will try to load only for a second (before the welcome screen with the login info) then automatically reboots..it wil do this forever. I cannot boot into safe mode either, however I can F8 and select last known good, and windows will boot. But then I get the same a"dd new hardware" trying to install my segate drive. I have tried to point the wizard to install the drivers from the i386 on the cd, but does not see any...when I reboot the problem starts all over again..I have looked for a driver from seagate, but they say they dont have any because the drive works with W2K3. I thought maybe I can add the driver to an $oem$/blah/blah folder in my RIS.

I have been reading about some issues with RIS and SATA drives...any ideas why this drive wont install?

Does any of this ring a bell:

Intel ICH5 Sata Controller "ich5.inf, ich5.cat, ich5core.inf, ich5core.cat, ich5usb.inf, and ich5usb.cat"

Gigbayte 865 chipset

Mass Storage drivers

I'm deploying W2K3 Web Ed w/SP1 onto a gigabyte desktop mobo with the seagate Sata drive. Mobo uses Intel ICH5
