Serial driver and COM port symbolic links

Using MS WinPe 2005 (OEM XP SP2).

Does anyone know how to get the serial driver to "publish" the DosDevice\COMx symbolics links under HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SERIALCOMM?

Have tried running with both pnp enabled and disabled. The serial port enumeration appears under the PNP0501 enum key. But the DosDevices COM port names are not published. This means that any s/w that attempts CreateFile (COMx..) will get a FILE_NOT_FOUND error.
