Augure Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Hi,I downloaded the beta2 version of Vista this week-end and i tried it on my laptop with dual boot. I was really surprised on the good way as it seemed to get all the drivers correctly.I connected it to the web with no problem but....... i can't connect to my desktop computer which is running XP Pro. (i frequently connected my laptop to my desktop PC when under XP Pro on both of them and there was no problem)I tried to connect as usual using the IP address directly in the address bar and then the login window appears.(everything's OK there)I put the admin login/password in it but it always says : logon unsuccessful. Windows was unable to log you on. Be sure that your logon/password is correct.I tried several logon/passwords (admin or not) saved on the desktop PC but none worked. On the other hand, connections from XP Pro to Vista worked perfectly.I set my network under Vista on private but it changed nothing when i tried public network..... please, someone could help me?any suggestion is welcome!thanks
Augure Posted June 20, 2006 Author Posted June 20, 2006 I found the solution : in the secpol.msc console, Network Security : LAN Manager authentication level was set on an incorrect version. You just need to change it to "Send LM & NTLM responses" and it's OK.Bye
fizban2 Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 LM should not have been the reason why you couldn't connect to XP, Lan Man is a dying technology from 95 - 98 era, should be needed to connect the 2 together, check your XP settings in the same place to make sure NTLM is a valid option to connect with
