microsoft windows SEARCH not working

hey!

i have windows xp sp2 and i can't use the "search" for folders and drives, etc

if i press it inside explorer it does nothing, and if i select it from the start menu i also don't get anything

i edited my registery today so it must be because of that, but i have no back up

what can i do? do i have to re-install microsoft windows again???

i have no restores or whatever, anyone knows what registery keys search uses?

is there a search software that REPLACES the windows search? so that it starts if i select search?

What exactly did you modify today? - That might help track down what you broke!?

The search code/registry entry itself could be in a number of places!
