RIS and RIPREP Flat image

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

I have a question about flat images on ris servers for ris- and riprep-images.

Long time ago I have installed ris in our network for deploying XPsp1 and Server2003.

For that i used one flat image of an xp cd (volume lincese) version: 5.1.(0)

and another one with server2003 (volume lincese) version: 5.2.(0).

for xp i always use ris-images.

for server2003 i always use riprep-images.

all works fine.but now...

Now the sp1 for server2003 is out and sp2 for xp.

and i have made some new riprep-images for server2003 with sp1.

deploying them on the ris server with the old flat image (version 5.2.(0) )

makes no problems, but with the new one that i have created

from the server2003sp1-cd (volume lincese) version: 5.1.(3790)

the image doesnt't work properly.when setup reaches the end of the

text mode portion, right before it reboots and continues with GUI setup,

it tries to copy five raid driver files to the local machine

(C:\windows\oemdir and C:\windows\system32\dirvers] and can't.

It displays an error stating cannot copy mraid35x,sys with retry, skip or exit as options.

If I skip this file the same message appears for other files *.inf, and *.cat.

Upon skipping all files the PC reboots continually reboots.

do i have to change the flat images on the ris server if i want to deploy a

riprep image of server2003 with sp1 or can i leave the old flat image?

is it ok to deploy servers from riprep-images containing sp1 with a flat image without sp1?

thanks to everybody. any help is welcome.

first of all. thanks mmarable.

but how?

I have installed a new server with server2003 with sp1 and made a new image from it and it doesnt work with the flat image with sp1, just with the old one.

btw: why do i have to sync? riprep is an exact mirror from the source, or not?

which files are used from the flat image for a new computer if i use a rirpep image?

thanks

  • 3 months later...

I have a similiar problem that my client pc gets stuck in a reboot cycle. I am running all updated software, flat image and riprep image. When the client pc first boots, windows new hardware tries to install the harddrive and fails. Upon reboot, it gets stuck in the cycle. Search google for "windows xp reboot cycle" and you might find some info.
