seskanda Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I've installed NUSB, but with most USB flash disks i insert, i have to re-start my PC everytime i want to use them. What's more, unless i keep the flash disk in my USB port while Win98 is booting up, It will NOT recognize the USB flash disk. Is this normal? Whatever happened to plug'n' play (PnP)? At least, if i could re-start my PC without having to keep the USB flash drive inserted, i'd be happy. If i install 98SE2ME will it allow me to use USB flash disks without restarting my computer? Thanks.
MDGx Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 You need to experiment installing 98SE2ME on your computer [at least option 8 which installs USB files], with your particular USB device(s) to see if it/they work(s) or not = trial and error game. Please note that Win98 SE + ME did not have full USB support way back in 1999 + 2000, respectively, when they were released. Only WinXP, 2003 + Vista have full native USB [including USB 2.0] support.98SE2ME options 1, 2 + 8 only add WinME level of USB support, which is only a little better than 98SE's.For example, if you have a USB 2.0 device, you have to use manufacturer's dedicated drivers. The idea is that it all depends on what particular USB device(s) you have, and what kind of drivers they use [usually proprietary], made by respective manufacturer(s).Please post all/any 98SE2ME related issues in the 98SE2ME dedicated forum:http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349Thanks.
seskanda Posted May 25, 2006 Author Posted May 25, 2006 hmm...i d/l'd 98SE2ME a while back, but there was NO Option 8. I've d/l'd the latest version and i'll check it soon. Yes, the USB stick is USB 2.0. Isn't there a way to "transplant' WinXP driver/USB 2.0 support into Win98SE? I'd assume you'd need to install 98SE2ME completely, though.
MDGx Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 (edited) I've made major changes to 98SE2ME lately, you may want to see READ1ST.TXT for details:http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/READ1ST.TXT2000/XP/2003/Vista drivers [unless they are specifically written for both 9x + NTx OSes] do not work with 9x OSes.To my knowledge USB 2.0 does not work natively in 9x OSes, you must use manufacturer's drivers for your particular devices, which may or may not work [please see previous post].HTHAgain...Please post all/any 98SE2ME related issues in the 98SE2ME dedicated forum:http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349Thanks.
