eyeball Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 hi all, does anyone here have experience with migration of exchange 2003 over to another server also running exchange 2003?can anyone tell me if they would use exmerge or just export all mailboxes to .pst files?many thanks
cluberti Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 Are they on the same, or different, domains? If different domains, definitely exmerge (there are also some 3rd party apps that can move rules, alerts, etc, which exmerge does not).http://www.quest.com/exchange_migration_wizard/
eyeball Posted May 12, 2006 Author Posted May 12, 2006 hey Cluberti, they are on the same domain, and iv just discovered the mailbox move wizard..this looks a lot easier than i thought, lolill post back if i have any problems.thanks for the reply
eyeball Posted May 12, 2006 Author Posted May 12, 2006 can anyone answer this question for me please to put my mind at rest...im doing this on a virtual pc, and thinking about when i come to do the real thing and its critical i have a good backup before i do the real move. if i backup the whole c:\program files\exchsrvr directory will this be enough to restore from should it all go wrong?thanks
cluberti Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 (edited) Have you considered running ntbackup to backup the exchange store and public folders databases?Just having the exchsrv folder structure will do you no good, ultimately. Edited May 13, 2006 by cluberti
eyeball Posted May 13, 2006 Author Posted May 13, 2006 thanks Cluberti il test this on a virtual pc and even try to restore some mailboxes, or the public folders or somethingthanks for the help on this one
