Edit Start Menu

Recommended Posts

this topic belongs in Unattended Windows forum.

And just configure your start menu the way you want, go to the documents and settings\all users\start menu folder, create a sfx rar/zip/7z archive of the contents of this folder.

Create a batchfile (will run during your Unattended setup) that deletes the contents of start menu in the All Users folder and Default User and runs the sfx archive afterwards..

the easiest and most simple method ever :)

But how would that work if i were to use my cd to install to a different partition (surely the shortcuts would be coded to c:\ if i preconfiged inside an sfx)

Apologies for wrong forum

I think you should read the unattended guide a few times.

you should configure the sfx (or use 7za.exe, command line version of 7z, make sure the file is in system32 (-->again, read the guide for howto), then use a .cmd file that commands 7za.exe to extract them to correct location)

to extract to %allusersprofile%\start menu\

or whatever your start menu is called (in Dutch it is 'menu start' dont know why..).

I recommend you first delete the contents of the start menu.

this makes it independent of any partition you install.
