file associations

Hi first post, I have searched on this and either havent understood or cant find my problem. So no flames please.

When my pc crashes windows or any program it sends the error report as usual. But I cant see what the web site suggests because I get the message "no program associated with this file etc etc. I have gone into control panel and tried to reset the association but cant seem to get the write program or action.The file seems to be a internet short cut I have tried pasting "C:\Program Files\Opera\Opera.exe" in the program box. Is there a download I can use for file associations.

My PC is a humble 1.31 ghz 640mb ram. I dont remember installing/ unistalling any software. At the time it started. And I have checked the correct sytem files are in place. Mike

open up a window such as my computer and go to tools, then folder options and file types tab. all file associations are listed in there

O.K. I understand where they are. Say I want to change the internet short cut. I paste in C:\Program Files\Opera\Opera.exe. Then what? Mike

Well you highlight the association, go on change and instead of copying and pasting browse for the opera. Highlight opera after you have browsed for it and click ok. Done.
