I recently acquired some new laptops and decided to make an image of the factory load. I boot the laptop, navigate to the riprep tool on the network and run. It takes the riprep tool 6 or 7 hours to complete. Once it's complete it reboots. I F12 into network boot to the Client Installation Wizard and get to the list of OS's to pick from and it's not listed there.

Basically, the customized hard disk images we've created aren't showing up in the OS chooser screen, only straight-from-disc images are listed.

Prior to beginning the image creation, the riprep tool notified me that some of the services would need to be stopped, which I stopped (that's normal, right?). It then said that many process running would need to be stopped as well, which I ended. The only prompt I recieved while the image was being created was a sharing violation on one file. I retried the copy of the file and it went on it's way. The riprep tool gave me notification that is completed successfully.

Just not sure why these images aren'y showing up in the Client Installation Wizard. Can some throw some thoughts out?

Thanks in advance.

What are the NTFS permissions on the new riprep image folder on the RIS server?

Also, when you go to the properties of the RIS server's computer object in AD, is the image listed there?

Cluberti,

The perms for the image folders not being seen have the same perms as the disc images. The image is not listed in AD. It shouldn't be, should it?

Yes, all of your images regardless if they are flat disk images or ripreped should be lsited on your server's properties.

Are the images in the same folder as the flat disk images?

Are the riprep.sif files present?

Apologies for digging up an old thread but this is a problem that I am having.

For some reason recently the RIS server stoped listing all the images. The images we are using had not been altered and were being used on machines which had previously been RIS'd without an issue. However an odd machine or two would see them which was weird. I checekd the riprep.sif files confirmed they are all ok and also tried taking a RIPREP image of a machine that couldnt see the images and tried to deploy back to it, it still couldnt see any images which makes me beleive its not a HAL issue as it should have worked back to itself.

Has anyone else had the same problems and found a fix? I've not been able to dig up anything from the MS KB's that was of any help and permissions are all ok.
