[Help] - hosts file not working

i have added some entries to my host file...

127.0.0.1 localhost

127.0.0.1 music.yahoo.com

127.0.0.1 music.msn.com

127.0.0.1 zone.msn.com

127.0.0.1 games.yahoo.com

127.0.0.1 games.com

127.0.0.1 miniclip.com

127.0.0.1 www.miniclip.com

127.0.0.1 games.net

127.0.0.1 www.shockwave.com

127.0.0.1 shockwave.com

127.0.0.1 www.realplayer.com

127.0.0.1 realplayer.com

127.0.0.1 www.real.com

127.0.0.1 real.com

yet when i ping any of these hosts...i do not get the 127.0.0.1

i get there actual ip address, and i can browse to that site in both ie and firefox....

i have rebooted

flushed dns, nbtstat -r R RR

any clue guys?

You could test to see if DNS is passing it the resolution(obviously it is, but this will tell you if your hosts file is correct) by setting no DNS servers. If you are using DHCP, disable it and manually give yourself an IP, subnet and default GW, but no DNS servers. Try pinging the names and see if you get the 127.0.0.1. That will verify your hosts file is working. You sure that your hosts file isn't named wrong (host.) or that you didn't add an extension to it somehow? Just a few things to try.

found it....i had the local dns client service running....

i just put in my login script net stop dnscache

Are you trying to make an ad-block type hosts file?

You're blocking quite a few major sites there, and disabling the DNS Client service will just slow down your browsing.
