Files & Settings Transfer Wizard issues on NEW PC.

I just bought a new PC that came with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002.

Before I unplugged my old PC which was running XP Pro, I used the File and Settings wizard to save my wife and I's files and settings.

Now when I use the File and Settings transfer wizard on the new PC it refuses to see the File & Settings file from the old PC.

I did a search on the web and found a couple of simular occurences, and so I tried the two fixes that were suggested and they did not work, ie:

Running the Files and transfer program off of my original XP Pro CD, the new PC wouldn't even run it from the disk, you could click on the link "Transfer Files and Settings" under "Additional Applications" but it woudn't not open the program.

My next shot was to try a Hotfix from Microsoft, that didn't work either, although it was a hot fix to get Files and Settings from a 32 bit Xp to work on a 64 bit XP.

So now I'm clueless... I can't beleive that Microsoft would have the same program built into all of their OS's but not make them compatible with each other.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Never mind, I figured it out.

So if anyone else ever has this problem here's the solution (which was staring me in the face the whole time.)

On your new PC, open up "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" and Click "Next", make sure "New Computer" is checked in the list and then select "Next."

Then mark the one that says " I want to create a wizard disk in the following drive" and then select a drive such as a jump drive or a floppy or whatever media you have that you can use on your old PC, and then select "Next."

A little box will pop up asking which version of windows is on your old pc, select whatever it is and hit "OK"

It will then prompt you to enter whatever blank media you chose (I used a 1GB jump drive) and then hit "OK"

It will save a couple files to the blank media you chose, and it will then prompt you to take that media to your old PC while leaving the current "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" program open on your new one.

Now take your media to the old pc and open it so that you can see the files that are on there, double click the file called "FASTWiz" and another "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" will open.

This time use it like you normally would; selecting "Old PC" and then instead of running the wizard again this time select where you want it to save the gathered information off your old PC, I chose my jump drive.

Once it's done collecting and saving the info. take the media you save to back to your new PC, insert it, and on the already open "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" program click "Next" and it will prompt you for the location of the collected files, show it where to go and it will do the rest. (the actual file won't be displayed so just point it to the folder or drive where it is.
