Promise FastTrak 376 IDE with Windows 2003

Hello,

I thought I'd give one last try at trying to solve this controller problem before I just stick a PCI controller card in...

A friend of mine gave me a MSI K7N2 to replace my old VIA motherboard... The motherboard has the promise fasttrak 376 controller that supports 2 SATA connections and an IDE3...

Now, I have tried setting no RAID array (I only have one drive on the controller) and booting using the drivers provided on MSI's website (Driver version: 1.0.0.19) and also just for fun tried the ASUS drivers (Driver version: 1.0.0.8) for the A7V8X (same controller)...

- - MSI Drivers - -

The MSI driver seems to install fine, and does allow the contoller to list Disk Drives, but it's not working properly. Normally I think you have to set a drive to RAID 0 in the contoller bios, so I tried this and windows went from about 4 ticks (complete revolutions of the bar at startup) to maybe 20? Not only that, if I try to goto Disk Management it takes quite a long time to "Connect to Logical Disk Manager service." "SCSI Raid 0+1 Drive" shows up under the drives, but not under Disk Management.

- - Asus Drivers - -

These work properly with the RAID striped, but still the 20x ticks and slow getting to the Disk Management applies.

- - Either - -

Both will show the drive as "Unreadable" in Disk Management if the drive is not set to RAID 0 in the controller BIOS. Also, I tried to put a CDROM drive on it too without success, it just tells you that no HDDs were found in the controller bios and backs out.
