tabbykat Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Hi all, Im at my wits end here. For some weird reason my DVD RAM driver has disappeared and I can't find it anywhere - LG is absolutely no help. It says on their website to download the trial version of Nero InCD V 4.0 or later if you do not have the install disc that came with this burner.I bought this burner at Future shop a couple of years ago and it did come with a CD - POWER DVD from Cyberlink that I still have however no Driver files on it. I was able to find an Update to the RAM Driver however, when I went to install it it wouldn't set up because it said that I did not have the DVD RAM driver on my system. Following is some of my system info:Drive E: Description CD-ROM Drive (in my computer in Win XP this shows as E: DVD RAM – Drive but when I insert a blank DVD+R disc under properties it says file format is RAW. and then identiys the disc as a CD)Media Type CD-ROM Name HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4040B Manufacturer (Standard CD-ROM drives) PNP Device ID IDE\CDROMHL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GSA-4040B_______________A304____\324B334438373246323320322020202020202020 Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys (5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158), 48.38 KB (49,536 bytes), 29/08/2002 5:00 AM) To me it looks like Windows has replaced the origonal drvier that came with my burner!I do not want to burn movies or music, just backing up files, and photos etc. LG has not yet responded to my many pleas for the driver. Is there any other way to go about burning files/formating DVD discs perhaps through Windows XP or should I just rip the thing out and throw it away? Im sick of all the time I've wasted on this anyhow. By the way it reads CD's fine and I can play DVD's(Movies, sound files, data files) or even read previously written to DVD's (My backup files.) but I can't write to new discs.AGAIN I NEED THE ORIGIONAL RAM DRIVER - NOT THE FIRMWARE UPDATE I ALREADY HAVE THAT INSTALLED.Thanks a Bunch!
Guest Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 (edited) You can copy files and folders through Windows XP. I actually had to do this once when fixing a friend's spyware/virus infested laptop a couple years ago to back-up their files.Right-click each file/folder you wish to burn, Send To, then choose your burner in the list that follows. After you have selected all of the files you wish to burn open My Computer, right-click your burner, then Write these files to CD.An alternative to right-clicking each file/folder I think is to use two explorer windows and drag each thing to the burner in My Computer, then Write these files to CD when finished. You say your burner is recognized as an HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4040B in Windows so I think you can try to get your drivers from here: http://www.bhacorp.com/download/utilities/dvdram.htmlHere's the version info from VERXP.TXT within the installer:*************************************************************** Software Version April 20, 2005 BHA_VER.07-3***************************************************************Driver Software meiudf.sys - Ver 4.0.5.0Format Software(DVDForm) - Ver 4.2.2.0Write Protect Tool(WPTool) - Ver 1.1.5.0RAM Assistance Tool(RAMASST) - Ver 1.1.0.0If you really want to pick up a new burner then decent ones are easy to find for around $50 US.
