moving exchange from sbs to 2003 standard different domains

Hi,

I have an SBS 2003 with exchange that i need to move all user accounts and emails off of.

the target machine is 2003 standard server with exchange 2003.

I have a VPN connection between the two, and can have them on the same lan if need be

but since i can't create trusts with SBS, i can't figure the best way to do it.

i know i can exmerge the email accounts into pst and reimport on the new server

I was wondering if there was a quicker, easier, or cleaner way to do this whole thing.

Of course minimal downtime, and complete data transfer are the most important things

any help would be appreciated

thanks

Since you've got SBS, there really isn't an easy way to do it. I've always found it easiest to create accounts on the new domain, and use USMT/ADMT/ExMerge to move users to the new domain, mail included. It's not quick, but it is reliable.

exmerge i am familiar with.

can you provide a link to the other migration tools?

actually, it appears that those tools will not work, as the machines are in different domains, and SBS does not allow trusts.....

any other methods that might work?

Well, you could always follow this KB article:

555073: How to upgrade Small Business Server Domain Environment to regular Windows 2003 Domain

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;555073

Do that with your SBS domain, and you'll have fewer problems migrating from one domain to another.

you are "DA MAN!"

wow, i have been looking all over for this solution. I tried technet and everything.

I guess i didn't use the right keywords.

well, i did a test run, and it looks like this will work!

I can't thank you enough!!!!
