DVD support in XP 64 for LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-6082B

Hi,

I recently purchased Windows XP 64 Edition and dual booted my PC in order to ensure I moved over to it without losing anything. On booting to this new O/S i noticed that initially their were a load of drivers missing and so had a great time searching the net for these missing drivers which was actually a success. The only issue I now seem to have is that although the LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-6082B installed out of the box as they say, it doesnt read any discs (thats CD or DVD) that i put in the drive. The light doesnt even seem to flash when the disc is inserted as you know it does when you normally insert a disc. I have searched the net for a resolution to no avail and would like some assistance here of possible.

I am now going to log to the 64 bit O/S to put some more information into this post.

If you have read up to this thanks for your patience.

More Info:

It seems that XP64 has loaded the same driver names as the 32bit XP O/S, being:

although XP64 says that a driver file has not been loaded but XP32 does not say this. The outstanding file is not loaded in either XP32 or XP64 (GEARaspiWDM.sys) and i dont think it should be either.

Nope this is fresh out of the box install with a handful of drivers... Only thing i have installed is the avast free AV as it was the only one i could find that supported 64bit at the time. this was after noticing the problem with the CD drive anyway.

After a brief google search, it seems that there are quite a few people having problems with LG drives in general under x64, but there are quite a few others who are having no issues. With that said, perhaps it's just a firmware issue?

Well just to sum this up... O.M.G!!!

I have been using this computer now for over a year without any problems whatsoever. I installed Windows XP64 dual booted with the original O/S (XP32) and for some reason the DVD drive stops working? Upon looking in the case i found that the jumpers were the wrong way round (slave was set to master and master was set to slave???). This is completeley wierd as it has been working for over a year and i havent touched the jumpers on either drive??? I guess this is another one for the resident ghost!!!
