folders transformed to files?

After being able to make a whole hard disk disappear and making it appear again using testdisk I entered

the second partition of that hard disk to find out that every folder had its name written in some weird fonts not making any sense.

I didn't try to access any file but instead ran chkdisk (right click on the partition->properties->tools->error checking).

The result was that some of the folders with their files were brought back to normal BUT some other folders now seem like they are files of unknown type(!!!!).

Of course now i cannot access these folders or the files in them...

Any ideas please?

very strange. what happens if you put the drive in another machine? can you then drag the data off it?
