Can't drop a BDC from the domain (Windows NT)

I have inherited a domain which has a couple of problems.

The main problem is that the domain was rebuilt but kept the same domain name, while the domain was rebuilt the old PDC which was no longer running as a PDC was taken off and then put back on the network at a later date (when the new domain was up and running).

As the domain name was kept the same this old PDC went straight back on and assumed the role of BDC.

My problem is that I don't think this server is really on the correct domain as it will still have all of the old domains SIDS. I want to take this server off of the domain and re add it to the correct domain but it won't let me do this???

Does anyone have any ideas???

If you pull the network cable and then try to remove it from the domain, does it work? You could also try promoting it to a PDC before trying to remove it from the domain (all with the cable disco'd, of course).

It really is as simple as it won't let me...

The option to add the server to a workgroup is greyed out.
