Audio compatibilty drivers

Hi

I've seem to have lost volume control device i get a message saying there are no active mixer devices available. I've tried to reinstall from the set up disk but no luck in control panle i have a yellow exclamation mark against WINMM WDM Audio Compatability drivers...any ideas how to get back
