problems with "save in" drop down box

Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem?

I have one user here whose Word 2002 (and subsequent install of 2003) has started hanging when he tries to click on the drop down "save in" tab box in the "save as" dialog box. There is no problem saving if he uses the left hand border location options, purely the drop down tab.

It's driven me nuts trying to sort it out - I suspect a registry key issue but no idea where to look!
