quinla01 Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Hi guys,Ok, I know that if netbios is disables the client is unable to browser lists of networks using my network places. What i want to know is: Will the client (with Netbios disabled) appear in the lists of other clients with netbios enabled?ThanksAndy
cluberti Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 It depends - if you've disabled netbios on the client but have a WINS server that the clients check into, then they *should* be in the browse list. However, if netbios is disabled and you aren't using a WINS server in this way, then no, they will not.
cluberti Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Nothing's foolproof - firewalls can cause a machine to not be in the browse list, network problems, flaky WINS servers, router lag, etc. If you really want a WINS and NetBIOS primer, search the MS site - there's a wealth of info there on how NetBIOS and WINS work.Microsoft started moving away from the browse list and WINS in general with AD and building everything on DNS, but it's still good info for supporting older technology.
