Extracting Boot IMG with WinISO

Hello all,

Am in the process of creating a multiboot DVD, and am following flyakite's excellent instructions.

I have come across one difficulty though, but I also have a solution!

(a solution which is probably well known already, but hey, I'm new to here/this, so I thought I share my thoughts in case anyone found it useful)

The difficulty came when extracting the IMG file from my customised Windows SP2 install (using nLite) when using WinISO.

The img file extracted ok, I renamed it, but Hex Editor refused to open it. I kept getting 'Parameter Incorrect' when opening it from within HE, and a runtime error when opening it through the right click context menu.

Confused and frustrated I eventually searched for another method of extracting boot sector files, and came across Bart's BBIE (Bart's Boot Image Extractor).

Using this method, the image was at last able to be opened in HE for editing.

Just thought I'd share my two cents and am also curious. Why would the img not be editable? Is it because I used a customised windows install? Or was it because it was SP2 ??

The image I downloaded from flyakites site worked just fine for me, but it twas a standard XPPROSP1 img, and therefore no good for me.

Hmmmmmmm......
