Firmware

I have a new Dell 8250 (P4 2.4GHz, 512Mb 1066MHz RDRAM, WinXP Home, etc). It has Dell supplied DVD+RW drive (OEM NEC ND-1100A).

It won't recognize any media at all. I have tried using System Restore, because it was working several days ago. It has always had intermittent problems with burning some DVD+RW media. System restore did not help.

Does anyone know how to do the following:

1) identify the firmware rev on the DVD+RW drive.

2) identify the ATAPI driver rev.

3) how to update the firmware on the DVD+RW drive.

4) how to update the ATAPI drivers on the DVD+RW drive.

Has anyone seen this problem with this drive, and what have you done to solve it?

Thanks alot for your time.

You'd probably be better off having Dell fix it for you. I don't know for sure, but I assume that would void your warranty with Dell if you update the firmware yourself. Who knows, companies are crazy like that.

Anyway, you're probably still under warranty so save yourself the trouble and have them do it for you (or replace the drive).
