compress photos to reduce file size

Hi there

My word file is very heavy due to numerous photos I use.

I tried to compress the photos (format photo>picture>compress)

I choose the 96dpi and apply it. All seems to be ok but the application completely ignores me, it doesn't work…

Any ideas why?

How can I compress the photos using word?
