shortcut pointing to network share causes reboot

I am stuck with an odd problem...

We have a Win 2k3 AD which my login.vbs creates shortcuts on bootup.

These scripts execute a program on a network share \\program\program.exe

for about 75% of my users whenever they click on it, the computer (XP SP2) simply reboots!

I am stuck, any thoughts?

Thanks!

The problem as I see it is not with network share, but with application...

Check %windir%\MiniDump, if you can see any files inside...

I'll log in and take a look, however even bginfo caused a reboot when ran from a network share (unix, samba share)

Hello, sorry for later response, I didnt have time till now :(

You have Broadcom NIC, right? :) And the driver for this NIC is your problem (b57). Try to replace it, if it wont help, send me more dmp files.

Thank you.

We are testing out the udpated driver on five machines and I will let you know!

I apprecaite your help in this.

Also, is it possible to push this driver update via a .vbs script or GPO?

Thanks again!

so far so good.

We have had no reboots reported in the last 24 hours, which is sadly, a record.

So it seems to have taken care of the problem.

As for WSUS, I have never touched it before.

How dummy proof is it, last thing I want to do is really muck everythign up.

Thanks again!!
