I have recently moved to a Small Business Server 2003 setup and have found that when I update a website using a simple ftp program, the site updates but can only be seen on pc's outside my network.

When I view the website in question I only ever see the site as it was before the updates. I have tried flushing caches and temp files, different browsers and trying other pc's on the network but all to no effect.

If seems that the server is somehow redirecting requests to this one site to a stored cache somewhere, or at least that seems to me what is happening.

Other websites can be viewed ok and everything seems to be current.

Where can I start looking for a cure to this??

need more infomation about your network. Like whether or not you use a modem, router, filewall, IIS, some kind of nerwork appliance that does firewall, url filtering etc. Do you use a host for the website or do you host it yourself? How many servers you have and what their roles are etc just to get a picture of how its been setup.

It's a fairly small network running SBS 2003. Internet access is by a Netgear DG834 router that has a firewall but isn't set to block access to this site.

Routing is turned off in the Netgear box and left to Windows Server.

The site in question is being hosted by a third party and as I say, I can update it ok and can view it outside my network but not within it..

That's it. The Server is doing DHCP, DNS with the attached workstations picking up settings automatically.

There is no proxy setting..

Ok does your network have the same domain name as your website? If so, and you haven't configured DNS properly, then this is the problem.

Aha..

The domain is different but Exhange Server has the same name. Would this cause the problem as well??

no thats fine to have that. I'll keep thinking ok and if something comes to me I'll post back if nobody else solves it.

Can you access the site by IP address? No actually that will probably take you to your webhosts webpage.

What you could try actually as an experiment is to go to a client machine and manually specify your external internet DNS address and see if that lets you see your website. Then we'll take things from there.

By the way, the DG834 is a nice choice I used to have one at work its got some nice web filtering. Its such a sexy box - its worth buying one for its aesthetics just so you can look at it all day.

If I do a nslookup, I get an IP address at my ISP, where I USED to host my site up until l a few weeks ago.

Why is it still pointing there rather than where the site is being hosted now?

On your server go Start | Programs | Administration Tools | DNS

somewhere in there should be an entry which tells the machines on your network the old IP address instead of the new one for your website. find this entry and edit it to the correct address.

Has your host for your email changed as well then with repect to where the mx records point to?

Yes, email was previously pop3 is now being processed by Exchange Server using SMTP...

I've looked through DNS but can't find any entry. I'll have another look...

I agree with your comments regarding the DG834. I've setup a few and they haven't failed me yet..

Problem solved...

The old hosting company, which is my current ISP, hadn't deleted the relevant dns record and this was directing me to the wrong address..

Thanks for the help..
