Standby problem

Featured Replies

I have a home office with WinXP networked PC's. (Two desktops and a notebook) One PC had problems with a hard drive with corrupt or missing WinXP files and unreadable sectors on the hard drive. The other desktop was fine. (PC's are MicroCenter PowerSpec Pentium 4 models) I replaced the bad hard drive and installed a new OEM version of WinXP Home SP2. I reinstalled the software, configured the new PC for home office networking and moved my data back over to the reconfigured PC from the 2nd desktop PC. Both PC's worked in standby. I don't recall doing anything in particular that would cause it, but now neither PC works in standby. The 2nd desktop PC didn't always work in standby before and I would have to change the power saving settings (to say, a different time to take effect), and click apply and close and then repeat changing the settings back to the desired time to take effect to get them to work.

It seems Standby mode is quirky at best. But I have enjoyed it working on one of the two PC's for 2 years and would like to get it working on both machines. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sorry, if this is a repeat topic. I couldn't find an answer to my particular issue.

Standby/Hibernate are associated with video drivers.

I would try uninstalling the current video drivers, and then installing the latest drivers from your video card manufacturer. Sometimes Windows will detect the video card and install the default drivers, which can cause quirky behaviour.
