santeana Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 1. I was reading the thread on how to change the boot logo and stuff. They gave a fantastic overview on what needs to be done to change it on a new install. In fact I followed all that (and more actually, since I had to create a new unattended install cd in order to get the necesary files {ie. the winnt.sif and so forth} to complete the boot logo thing). so, now that I have this cd all set, i should be good to go next time i install windows. However, i really don't feel like installing windows right now since I just got it -finally - the way i like it. Can anyone tell me what i need to do in order to change my existing boot logo on the windows I have installed right now? I have both a logonui.exe (welcome screen, apparently) and an ntoskrnl.exe that I wish to use in place of the original ones. As you all already know, I'm sure, when I try to replace the existing files, they simply get overwritten almost instantly with the originals. I tried renaming the files I intend to use, (oemkrnl.exe) and then edited the boot.ini to use that file as the kernel. The boot screen works nicely, but rather than load windows (you can see where I'm going with this, I can tell) I get the BSOD. 2. the modifyPE file....how do ya use that exactly? I mean, i know how to run it...I just don't know WHEN. Lets say I want to replace uxtheme.dl_ in the i386 folder of my new cd with a prepatched version that I have in my system32 directory. Do I replace the file and then run modifyPE on it, or do I run modifyPE on the original file then replace it with my new one? Thanks in advace for any help anyone might have
