While trying to perform an unattended install on several Dell Dimension 2350's I consistently ran into an ASMS error that would end the installation at 39 minutes. After searching the forums for help several people suggested replacing the CD-Rom drive with a different one and it should solve the problem. Well sure enough, after I stuck a different drive in the machine and ran the install from it I had no problems what so ever.

I am just curious about what drives the people who encounter this problem are using. A list of drives that cause this error might help someone avoid this problem or other problems when looking into new or replacement hardware.

My Dell 2305's all have Hitachi 40X HLDS GCE-8400B HH CDRW Drives.

I know this error is pretty rare, but hopefully it will save time for people who do encounter it.

I have the same issue with the DELL Optiplex GX270.

The drive is "SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-148C (48x CD-ROM)"

IF I can figure out how to load the chipset it might work :) but those drivers don't come with an INF file, so not sure they are really PNP.
