Best firewall!

hello to everybody,

This time i want to talk about the Firewalls. What software firewall is great for a network and what do u use and why? for protecting the entire network from intruders and hackers and specially viruses? or maybe u prefer to use of hardware firewalls!?!

Please write ur opinion and write why that?

By the way what is the best way to prevent some users in network to use the shared internet and allow to some other? [actually through firewall]

I am using Windows Firewall in XPSP2. For my purposes it is absolutely ideas. I got catastrophic scenarios - for example if there would be attack on our company or new destructive virus, few persons have "red button", that will lock down every workstation on network. Also for mobile users scenarios it is great - domain and standart profile is working great!

For protecting whole network perimeter I got few HW FWs and proxy with AV. Also IDS/IPS. The best protection against viruses is protected mail server - blocking dangerous attachments (exe, vbs etc.) is in my personal opinion step one in protection. Also AV of course - ideally different AV from that deployed on workstations...
