Cheops Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Hi,Could someone tell me if it is possible to host a dns server on windows 2003 if the server is stuck behind a router.so basically my setup is INTERNET LINKSYS ROUTER SERVER WORKSTATION 1 WORKSTATION 2 WORKSTATION 3 etc........The problem i'm having is my server has a local IP address 192.168.0.1 and the router has my external static ip (80.x.x.x) address. When ever I do a dns check it says that my server is reporting back that it has different glue because of the local IP addressHow could I get round this? Thanks in advance.
tguy Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Try setting up your external DNS servers as forwarders in the properties of your DNS server on WIN2K3.Have your clients get their DNS settings exclusively from the WIN2K3 server.I have the exact same setup and the above works just fine for me. You do not need to configure port 53 on the router for this to work.Good luck.
Cheops Posted May 25, 2005 Author Posted May 25, 2005 thanks for replying so basically I need to setup the forwarders to be my ISP's dns servers and DNS Report will say the correct IP address instead of the local Ip addressThanks
