Volume control won't stay in systray.

I go to the sound and multimedia control panel, check the box show volume control on taskbar, click apply then OK.

Next reboot the volume control is gone and that box is unchecked.

My soundcard is a Soundblaster Live! 5.1 (not Platinum) with the Live! Drive connector but no drive. OS is 2000 Pro.
