army20 Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Can anyone tell me how to stop microsoft office frontpgae 2003 to stop creating _vti_cnf folders ?-M
[deXter] Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 A quick and dirty way to prevent any program from creating new files/folders would be to create a folder/file with the exact same name!Confused? For eg, if you want to stop the creation of _vti_cnf, then create a blank, empty file with the exact same name, ie, _vti_cnf, in the same location. Now neither you, nor any program can create a folder by the same name! The same applies to files also. If you want to prevent the creation of a particular file, just delete the file when its not in use and create a folder by the exact same name This is a trick from the good'ol DOS days btw, which suprisingly still works, even on NTFS FileSystems
mattofak Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 you cannot stop FrontPage from creating _vti_cnf, _vti_txt, _vti_log, _vti_src, _vti_pvt, ect files... the reason being is that these folders are part of and needed by FrontPage Server Extensions. The only way to get rid of them is to delete them every time you create a new web (dont delete if you are using FPSE else your ent app wont work)... same with IIS...alt you could just use another WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver...
