Key: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles\Current\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_476516F3&REV_50\3&61AAA01&0&8D\DirectSound\Speaker Configuration\Speaker Configuration

Value: Speaker Configuration

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles\Current\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_476516F3&REV_50\3&61AAA01&0&8D\DirectSound\Speaker Type\Speaker Type

Value: Speaker Type

The "VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_476516F3&REV_50\3&61AAA01&0&8D" might be different on each computer, or on each audio driver. This is where mine is in the registry.

I don't know what the different numbers mean. On my computer, setting the speaker setup in ControlPanel>Sounds&AudioDevices to "Desktop Stereo Speakers" set Speaker Configuration to 0x140004 and set Speaker Type to 0x2. Selecting "5.1 Surround" set Speaker Configuration to hex 0x6 and set Speaker Type to 0xb.

Use RegShot v1.7 for this kind of thing: http://the7thlab.mybesthost.com/

Sounds strange, but I guess if locking the registry values works, then good. Glad to be of help.
