If there aren't/manually configured to go through a proxy service on the server and the router provides the access to the internet via the switch (i.e. not to the server only) then you should be able to load up the clients without the server connected/running, and access the internet automatically - but of course, like always, it depends on the setup.

The computers worked all fine forever until I plugged in the server. This is the same exact setup I had pre-server, so I am more than 100% positive this is from the server and not faulty networking equipment. I have included a diagram of my network below for your reference; Hopefully it'll help you see my setup. Again, thank you for your help. :thumbup

hey cool pic - a diagram is good.

I recall the phrase "a picture paints a thousand words" hehe

I only wanted to check you see - just in case ;)

I have a feeling it is dns - if the server is forwardung dns queries on, it may be sending them through the wan (dsl) link to the isp - which of course, in most cases, will reject them (as far as i know) if your dsl link is a single ip that can be used in conjunction with the nat in the router.

(please tell me if i'm wrong - this is the way i understand it anyhow)

If what i say is right in your case, You'll want to make sure the dns is not forwarding it onwards. I belive you can do this somehow tho i cant try it myself (as i dont have a server at home ...yet)

N.

Hey,

Visio is awesome, lol.

Well, I'll give it another shot. I'll try to configure the server to not forward the queries forward. If there is anyone else reading this, as I would highly appreciate your input as well as those who have already posted.

Thanks!

ahhh i see hehe ;) @ visio

it may be doing it by default, and causing the problems i.e. the isp stopping access as dns entries are being fed to it (or something "along" those lines lol)

Let us know how that turns out.

I am looking for the answer to this issue. I have Windows Small Business Server 2003, I followed the configuration wizards and after it is running for about 2 hours it drops. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Did you choose "No forwarding" when you got to that bit of the Configuration Wizard for setting up DNS?

I can't remember it exactly - tho I shall be doing it soon :)
