error reporting (not responding)

I a running XP sp2 with IE 6.0.2900... I have some conflict which is causing my ie to hang up when I click on some links but this is not the immediate reason for my cry for help. NAV does not report any viruses so I need to better understand that problem before i can deal with it . In order to close up open applications after the above mentioned hangup occurs I need to rely on the task manager and ultimately I get the send/don't send report window. If I send a report, I eventually get an "error reporting" window which invites me to click on a link for more "information which may prevent this problem in the future." clicking this more information link freezes the error reporting window which by then has a (not responding) tag in the title bar and I am unable to close it, even with the task manager (it does not even appear as an application). My only recourse is to reboot. The window sits on my screen. and does not stop me from opening applications or going to the web. the cursor changes to full hourglass when i hover over it. Any ideas of what could be causing this?

I *very* rarely see an app error window, so I don't know what that "more information" link is supposed to do. Are you sure it doesn't try to open IE to go to a link and is therefore hanging because IE is the crashed app? It's just an idea.

That doesn't sound right: if so i would think that when I close down ie on the task manager it would take away the window with it and that is not the case. in fact that window stays on my screen after i have closed all apps and nothing is left to close on the task mgr. It does not interfere with opening new aps. it just sits there getting in the way. I have generated the same window since and it is not a problem as long as I don't click on the more information link. As for the more information link, it takes you to some page in help and support somewhere if I remember correctly .

Not if the Error Reporting service hung. It is a separate program, dwwin.exe. I just tried it myself, made a little program to cause an app error, then shut down my program with task manager, and the Error Reporting dialog stayed on the screen.

The more information link on my computer (XP Home) bring up a little window with a few details and another "technical information" link.

Maybe the dwwin.exe is having a problem loading the detailed information for that IE crash. Does it hang with any app error?
