jac_goudsmit Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I've been searching for a solution to this problem for about two weeks, so I thought I would share it with you guys. If I picked the wrong forum, feel free to move the thread.I have a couple of brand new Gateway machines, running a Pentium 4/540 (3.2GHz) with a 915 chipset. I wanted to install the same software on each of these machines and I was thinking of setting up a RIS server to do this.I'll spare you the details of setting up the RIS server, suffice it to say that all went well, or at least I eventually got it to work Then I made a risprep of the fully installed machine. This was pretty smooth too. The first snag came when I tried to install one of the other machines from the RIS image. Turns out I had to install an $OEM$ directory with drivers for the network card. Googled for info, followed the instructions, all is well. But then, whenever the text setup would start windows (after downloading the kernel drivers), it would show "This Computer Does Not Have Enough Disk Partitions", and I couldn't figure out why. Long story short: I found this hint on the MS website which doesn't seem to have anything to do with my problem: my XP flat install is called "XP" and my riprep install is called "506" so if RIS does search by alphabet, it should find the 506 install first. Also, my XP flat install has SP2 slipstreamed, so the original "Gold" code that the MS article talks about isn't even there. But I found that article and thought: what the hey. So I disconnected the internal USB cable from the card readers on the front panel to the motherboard, and hey presto! It works! Now all I have to do is figure out why the install stops on almost every file of the January 2005 MSDN library saying it can't set permissions... But over all, it's a result...===Jac
