unexpected unattended under VMware

This is the story :

I'm creating my super-awesome-sophisticated multiboot DVD and I wanted to include an unattended xp prof setup generated by nLite. It worked ok, then I wanted to test one of the "normal" installs from my image. So I run it under VMware and... it also went unattended (bypassing time zones setup, languages, serial number and so on). I thought that it might have interfered with the other setup files in my dvd image.

So... I tested another setup CD image, without multiboot. And it also bypassed the "gathering information" part. I gave up on .iso images that I might have modified somehow. But I tested two actual CDs - one Professional, one Home, the latter was used to install the system I'm sitting on now and it did ask for serial, I'm sure of it because I spent half an hour looking for it.

Anyone has an idea what's going on? I use VMware version 4.5, tomorrow I'll install an older version to see if this is the source of the problem, but I really doubt it.

I thought that maybe a setup could somehow "see" the old installation or something so I created a new virtual machine and a new virtual disk for each setup. At this moment I'm installing a german xp prof that came with my laptop but I know what the result will be. I just don't get it. Why doesn't it ask for input?
