Hyperthreading in XP (Dual Processors)

Featured Replies

I know that Windows XP Pro will support dual processors, but how does it show in the device manager? If you are using dual Xeon Processors (with Hyperthreading) does is show as 2 physical CPU or will it show as 4 CPU's? If is shows with 4 CPU's does it take advantage of the HT? If not in order to take advantage of the dual processors with HT will I need to move to Server (Standard or Enterprise)? Thanks

Windows XP will take advantage of Dual Xeon processors. The real advantage, though, is for applications that can take advantage of HT.

As a workstation operating system, I'd stick with XP. Dual Xeon's show up as 4 CPU's.

In answer to your question; 1 hyperthreading cpu will show up as 2 separate cpu's. I know this from experience. Therefore I think it is safe to assume that 2 hyperthreading cpu's will show up as four.

I have a dual Xeon Processor computer running with Hyperthread tecnology on it, It shows up with 4 processors.
