I have a question thats been bothering me since aquiring my first server.

I run a 3 computer home network, 2 xp, 1 2k3. I am not running a domain (yet) but i am using my new s erver as a fileserver at the moment. the problem is the connection. my xp machines can transfer files just fine TO the server, but it takes literally 3 minutes to copy an mp3 from the server back to the 2k3 machine.

anyone have any ideas how to speed up transfer from 2k3->winxp? like i said, its fine xp>2k3, but not the other way around.

thanks!

There are a number of things that could be causing your network latency.

You could try these things to improve the speed.

1) Hard code the flow control/port speed of your NICS in the Advanced Properties.

2) In My Network Places, right click and choose Properties. Click the Advanced menu then choose Advanced Settings. Make sure your primary NIC is at the top of the connections list.

3) Also in properties, right click your NIC and choose Properties, then TCP/IP. On the WINS tab, you could try changing Enabling Netbios over TCP/IP as opposed to getting the settings from a DHCP server.

4) Try replacing the network patch cable.

5) Update the NIC drivers on the pc's and server.

Hope one of these work for you.

I've got w2k3 server and xppro clients, certified cat6 network working @100mbps, cisco switches, all the stuff. And got the same problem.

When I upload file from client to server, it goes fine, network load is up to 70%, 6-8 mbytes/sec.

But when I download file from server, it works out like 1-2% load, and 200-300 kbytes/sec speed.

Whatever I tried didn't solve the problem.

P.S. server is intel se1325tp1e and clients are intel 865 perlx.
