Thanks for the link to the microsoft article. I was thinking and it accured to me that if I downloaded the same programs that I couldn't uninstall and then try to uninstall them it might work and it did.

Not a bad idea. This, theoretically, also means that any extra files left behind will also be cleaned up, something that would not happen just deleting reg keys.
