Rds Replacement

I am updating several web pages I wrote years ago and am looking for a replacement for RDS. These web pages are standard asp on the server and use javascript on the client machine. I need to be able to pass information to the asp pages and retrive information back from the asp pages without reloading the web pages.

I have some success using a hidden iframe but am looking for a better way. Also some links to example code would also be nice.
