I have an IBM Netvista PC that I just bought off eBay; 1 gHz clock, nice machine. I did a fresh OS install with Windows98. (I do a lot of device control programming using Delphi through the parallel port, and don't want to move to newer Windows versions that prevent my port access, or make it slower or more difficult.)

My USB works fine with my MMC card reader, and a webcam, and an optical mouse.

But with a Velleman K8055 USB I/O experimenters board, that was advertised as requiring Windows98 SE, some USB commands work perfectly but others are not working, and I'm trying to figure out whether the board is defective or there really is so much difference between Windows98 and Windows98SE that a USB device would partially fail.

Can anyone point me to the difference between USB capability between Windows98 and Windows98SE? Are there specific USB functions that fail in 98 but would succeed in 98SE?

I am pretty sure that the 1st release og 98 was real bad for usb managment and power managment for devices. So most normal devices requre se. Look at the website for the device or even email the tech support. You could also try special sp.

If you were to use 2000 or xp can your stuff not work in compatabilty mode?
