Stuntgp2000 Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Hi everyone.Does anyone know a Patch Management Software that install patches even in a low privilege account. Why ?All my PCs have a low privilege account which prevent Automatic Windows Update from installing Updates. Thanks in advance
Martin Zugec Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Why not using SUS/WUS? It is working with non-admin users, too... (based on WI)
Stuntgp2000 Posted February 14, 2005 Author Posted February 14, 2005 I think SUS need a lot of system resources & a Server OS while my central pc is a XP Pro OS
Martin Zugec Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 Not sure about server OS... About performace - one PIII 500MHz machine can take care of about 50000 client computers. I am running 2 SUS server on normal server and dont have any problems with performance. Once I saw running few SUS servers (virtual servers) on one common physical server with no problems...
prathapml Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 soulin, the obstacle to WUS being used in non-large networks, is that it has to be a service running off a non-Primary AD server. So effectively, you should have one for AD services, and a secondary one hosting WUS. We could afford it, but not everybody....Also, the WUS host will only run off a Win2k server or WS2k3 server OS.
trainer4 Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 You have to find a way to have the following files run as an administrator: [all located in the %systemroot%\system32 folder] WUAUCLT.EXE WUAUCLT1.EXE and WUPDMGR.EXE. Set up something to have them run as an administrator or as the Administrator. Your choice.
Stuntgp2000 Posted February 16, 2005 Author Posted February 16, 2005 Thanks, but how, I don't know to do this. Please can you explain me more about this trick. Thanks in advance.
tguy Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Try St. Bernard's software's Update Expert. It is the best I have found.
