Install unattend Win with TFTP and/or shared dir

Recommended Posts

Hi

It is possible to start an unattend windows installation with TFTP (with a computer with a PXE network card) ?

I don't want to use RIS (because too many different PC).

The solution that I think:

A linux server with a TFTP server and Samba file sharing (like a Windows share).

I put all the files from CD on the TFTP, or on the shared dir.

The PC, boot, request an IP by DHCP, load the begin of install by TFTP and install the windows to the PC.

No D7, no CD, no DVD, etc. Only PC with a PXE capable network card.

It is possible ? And why ? I need some explanation to how to do that

Thanks.

PXE Network - Linux Based - Boot winpe from the net

You can map a network share from WinPE and launch the install WINNT32.EXE from the distribution share.

PXES HOWTO: Installing in a Microsoft only environment.

PXELINUX and Micro RIS

I'm using a mixed method and these links showed me the way.

2K Server with DHCP and TFTPD services.

MS network DOS boot disk image stored on the 2K server

PXE boot

load DOS and MS Network

map to network share

launch WINNT.EXE (16 bits version)
