Am Introducing Myself as DESPERATE

Yes I know that is frowned upon. Sorry. Hi. But my stupidity warrants I need help fast. Need my Excel 2000 for my awareness of my money situation. I already sound stupid and desperate, right? But its true. No checking books .. nothing but my Excel program. Its there and thats the only place and I need to get back to it. Stupid move was that even though I am in essence a layman, all the tweak programs and information on the internet had convinced me I could download Office 2000 Resource Kit and use it to chronicle how much I have changed my Office installation. So that when I changed and upgraded my Windows, I could reinstall my Office installation as I have changed it, without all their crap and the way I like it. So installed sort of .. ORK tools and did an Office Profile and transferred from my valid CDs that I have and bought - Data1.msi and Data2.msi to my custom folder under ORK Tools. That was all I got to. I didn't really get to doing more with all of those ORK programs .. I mean the Inventory Exe did not work for me and the Custom Installation Wizard .. I may have tried .. but in essence the only thing I think I did was to press the buttons in Office Profile and create this profile of my Office files that are arranged completely different than their first install.

So then this week like an id*** ... because my Windows 98 Update still works perfect and can log on and download the updates I need, etc. ... well I assumed somehow my Office 2000 could log on and download the updates I need. And it did. And it even read still the updates I have already installed. BUT here is the problem, the Excel 2000 latest download from the Office Update did NOT download and install successfully. Which would have been fine by me, if I could have just gone on like I was. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Now Excel ... upon every attempt at getting into it .. .comes up with a Windows Installer Error saying it first goes to my directory in ORK Tools where I put the Data1.msi and the Data2.msi and from there jumps to the Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office/Excel.exe. Now it is not so far off from the locations that it needs to get right. So it is trying to conceive of what I did in screwing up by playing with the Office Resource Kit. It looks like all I have to do is redirect Windows Installer to see where it has to go to update my Excel 2000 with this stupid update. Please can't someone tell me where in the registry I might redirect Windows Installer to look? I saw some tips for Office 2003 that said that one could look up in the registry all of the Office updates and then insert them elsewhere in the registry and then new Updates would redirect. BUT it did not have that tip for Office 2000. And when I went to look for the same places in the registry that it said Office 2003 people to go to, well I did not have the second registry area. Oh please does this make sense and can't someone help me! I am willing to pay for it, I just don't want the standard instructions of having to reinstall everything .. because I just can't do it. My system is tweaked so much .. but also working to a large degree according to the tweaks .. and prior to this one little office install for Excel 2000, everything was fine. If I could just even get back Windows Installer the way it was prior to this attempt, I would be fine. Please help.

Hello brianeclus,

glad to have you here :hello:

Arranging the above to make it easier to read, and posting it in the relevant section might get you some replies to fix it, though.
