Bailey Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 I'm having a bit of trouble because I don't know how to figure out what files I actually need. I scan through the INF and pick out all the files I see in there, but I'm not too sure of that method. Some of the drivers are just all over the place and unorganized, and two or three of them don't make it clear which ones are for Windows XP. Has anyone done this yet?Is there a tool that can help me extract necessary drivers for Windows XP? That would be awesome.These are the files I have now. I collected them manually (which obviously isn't the best way).Volume in drive D is STORED Volume Serial Number is 1273-8FD1 Directory of D:\EPIA\xp_mii_drivers01/21/2005 07:02 PM <DIR> .01/21/2005 07:02 PM <DIR> ..01/20/2005 09:33 PM <DIR> 000_ide01/20/2005 09:33 PM <DIR> 001_mach01/20/2005 09:40 PM <DIR> 002_gart01/21/2005 06:49 PM <DIR> 003_agp01/20/2005 09:53 PM <DIR> 004_vga01/20/2005 09:46 PM <DIR> 005_usb201/20/2005 09:45 PM <DIR> 006_fir01/20/2005 09:44 PM <DIR> 007_audio01/20/2005 09:46 PM <DIR> 008_lan 0 File(s) 0 bytes Directory of D:\EPIA\xp_mii_drivers\000_ide01/20/2005 09:33 PM <DIR> .01/20/2005 09:33 PM <DIR> ..08/03/2001 05:16 PM 32,768 VIAIDE2K.DLL10/18/2001 12:00 PM 1,573 VIAIDEXP.INF10/18/2001 12:00 PM 6,144 VIAIDEXP.SYS11/07/2001 09:05 AM 7,161 VIAMINI.CAT 4 File(s) 47,646 bytes Directory of D:\EPIA\xp_mii_drivers\001_mach01/20/2005 09:33 PM <DIR> .01/20/2005 09:33 PM <DIR> ..04/28/2003 07:41 PM 9,951 viamach.cat04/15/2003 11:42 AM 6,077 VIAMACH.INF 2 File(s) 16,028 bytes Directory of D:\EPIA\xp_mii_drivers\002_gart01/20/2005 09:40 PM <DIR> .01/20/2005 09:40 PM <DIR> ..12/27/2002 04:41 AM 5,361 VIAAGPS.reg12/27/2002 04:41 AM 5,644 VIAAGPV.reg02/03/2003 06:13 PM 9,022 viagart.cat12/27/2002 04:41 AM 8,557 VIAGART.INF12/27/2002 04:41 AM 9,912 VIAGART.sys 5 File(s) 38,496 bytes Directory of D:\EPIA\xp_mii_drivers\003_agp01/21/2005 06:49 PM <DIR> .01/21/2005 06:49 PM <DIR> ..02/03/2003 06:12 PM 8,850 viaagp1.cat12/27/2002 04:41 AM 4,187 VIAAGP1.INF12/27/2002 04:41 AM 26,880 VIAAGP1.SYS12/27/2002 04:41 AM 5,361 VIAAGPS.reg12/27/2002 04:41 AM 5,644 VIAAGPV.reg 5 File(s) 50,922 bytes Directory of D:\EPIA\xp_mii_drivers\004_vga01/20/2005 09:53 PM <DIR> .01/20/2005 09:53 PM <DIR> ..05/27/2003 03:01 PM 159,792 s3hotkey.exe08/25/2003 07:55 PM 26,256 viagfx.cat08/08/2003 10:53 AM 17,638 VIAGFX.INF08/11/2003 02:08 PM 1,851,904 vtdisp.dll08/08/2003 02:42 AM 60,904 VTDispl2.cfg08/08/2003 02:42 AM 62,392 VTDisply.cfg08/08/2003 02:41 AM 438,272 VTDisply.dll08/08/2003 02:40 AM 18,279 VTDspChs.hlp08/08/2003 02:40 AM 18,478 VTDspCht.hlp08/08/2003 02:40 AM 18,293 VTDspJpn.hlp08/08/2003 02:40 AM 20,792 VTDspKor.hlp08/08/2003 02:40 AM 170,850 VTDspWst.hlp07/09/2003 04:50 AM 48,879 VTGamma2.cfg06/18/2003 03:42 PM 290,816 VTGamma2.dll05/13/2003 06:11 AM 17,215 VTGm2Chs.hlp05/13/2003 06:11 AM 17,492 VTGm2Cht.hlp05/13/2003 06:11 AM 16,804 VTGm2Jpn.hlp05/13/2003 06:11 AM 19,691 VTGm2Kor.hlp05/13/2003 06:11 AM 129,239 VTGm2Wst.hlp08/11/2003 02:10 PM 1,720,320 vticd.dll07/31/2003 02:45 AM 8,596 VTIn2Chs.hlp07/31/2003 02:45 AM 8,645 VTIn2Cht.hlp07/31/2003 02:45 AM 9,065 VTIn2Jpn.hlp07/31/2003 02:45 AM 9,067 VTIn2Kor.hlp07/31/2003 02:45 AM 38,823 VTIn2Wst.hlp07/31/2003 02:45 AM 38,191 VTInfo2.cfg07/31/2003 02:45 AM 225,280 VTInfo2.dll08/11/2003 02:09 PM 265,344 vtmini.sys07/29/2003 05:20 PM 9,730 VTOvlChs.hlp07/29/2003 05:20 PM 9,708 VTOvlCht.hlp07/29/2003 05:20 PM 10,148 VTOvlJpn.hlp07/29/2003 05:20 PM 10,370 VTOvlKor.hlp07/30/2003 11:20 AM 55,911 VTOvlWst.hlp07/29/2003 05:44 PM 54,112 VTOvrlay.cfg08/08/2003 11:53 AM 323,584 VTOvrlay.dll05/07/2003 04:32 PM 36,864 VTTimer.exe01/07/2003 06:26 AM 69,690 VTUninst.exe 37 File(s) 6,307,434 bytes Directory of D:\EPIA\xp_mii_drivers\005_usb201/20/2005 09:46 PM <DIR> .01/20/2005 09:46 PM <DIR> ..09/26/2002 02:06 PM 6,787 viaehcx1.cat09/10/2002 11:07 AM 1,405 VIAEHCX1.INF 2 File(s) 8,192 bytes Directory of D:\EPIA\xp_mii_drivers\006_fir01/20/2005 09:45 PM <DIR> .01/20/2005 09:45 PM <DIR> ..12/07/2001 01:32 PM 6,072 VIAFIR2K.INF12/25/2001 06:29 PM 7,104 VIAIRDA.CAT12/07/2001 01:32 PM 24,244 VIAIRDA.SYS 3 File(s) 37,420 bytes Directory of D:\EPIA\xp_mii_drivers\007_audio01/20/2005 09:44 PM <DIR> .01/20/2005 09:44 PM <DIR> ..06/18/2003 05:30 PM 720,896 A3d.dll06/18/2003 05:30 PM 765,952 crlds3d.dll06/18/2003 05:51 PM 24,015 viacomp.inf06/27/2003 10:15 AM 64,067 viaudios.cat06/18/2003 05:30 PM 25,331 VIAUDIOS.inf06/18/2003 05:30 PM 91,520 viaudios.sys06/18/2003 05:51 PM 61,866 VIAUDOEM.INF 7 File(s) 1,753,647 bytes Directory of D:\EPIA\xp_mii_drivers\008_lan01/20/2005 09:46 PM <DIR> .01/20/2005 09:46 PM <DIR> ..08/05/2003 08:28 PM 52,848 FETND.DOS07/29/2003 11:31 AM 41,984 FETND5B.sys07/30/2003 03:55 PM 44,563 FETNDIS.inf01/20/2005 09:43 PM 165 readme.txt02/20/2002 12:04 PM 15,552 WINNDI.DLL 5 File(s) 155,112 bytes Total Files Listed: 70 File(s) 8,414,897 bytes 29 Dir(s) 13,572,657,152 bytes free
Bailey Posted January 22, 2005 Author Posted January 22, 2005 Okay, this works.. there are two issues which may or may not be a problem.#1 - 1280x1024@60hz is possible but anything above 60hz that is not. I could have sworn that when I installed the video drivers regularly 1280x1024 was available at a better refresh rate.#2 - The audio devices and codecs are all "legacy" under device manager, except for one.. the AC '97 WDM. Normally this means that windows is using default drivers, but maybe VIA meant it to be that way.
contri Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Hi Bailey, could you please explain further how you did it? I had a look at the drivers, and then pointed nlite to the folder i thought more convenient, ie WinXP, but in some drivers from Via Arena web there is no clear folder for that. Your #1 issue, I also noticed it, no frequency other than 60 Hz could be selected, but I overcame that problem by disabling in BIOS the TV option (CRT+TV) to just CRT. If it's set to both, it can only work at 60 Hz, but in olny CRT mode, I think the other frequencies will show up.
