prathapml Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Source: Bink and MSFN newsIf you've been concerned about the possibility that users in your Windows XP environment might plug in a USB storage key and walk away with hundreds of megabytes of proprietary information, XPSP2 lets you make USB storage devices read only, removing the possibility of leaking data via a USB key. Make sure that you aren't using other USB storage devices such as hard drives or a CD/DVD writer before you set this registry tweak:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00; configure USB storage for read only[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies]"WriteProtect"=dword:00000001Copy/paste the text in code block into notepad, save as a file with .REG extension and double-click it to apply the policy.
